Step 1
Initial Consultation
This is your free consultation with Kostopoulos Bankruptcy Law. It’s where we will analyze your case and make you aware of all your options
Step 2
2ND CONSULTATION / SIGN UP
This is the step where you will sign and review our contracts in order to retain us for your case. You will meet with one of our attorneys or legal assistants to accomplish this.
Step 3
1ST CREDIT COUNSELING SESSION
This needs to be completed before your case can be filed. You may complete this step on your own or assistance in our office.
Step 4
DOCUMENT FROP OFF / REVIEW
Within 5-7 days of step 2, you will need to drop off ALL the documents from the list you received. We will review them with you to make sure all the documents are there. You will meet with an attorney or legal assistant.
Step 5
BANKRUPTCY FILING
Your bankruptcy case is prepared for filing with the courts. Your bankruptcy case is prepared for filing with the courts.
Step 6
SIGNING APPOINTMENT
This will be your first signing appointment and your case will be filed. This is a long appointment; 2 hours. This is to review your final bankruptcy petition for accuracy and completeness. It will be reviewed twice. You will be contacted by a legal assistant. She will complete your petition, review all information such as expenses, income, debts. An Attorney will then meet with you to review the petition to ensure its accuracy and explain the various schedules to you. You will initial and sign the completed petition after review.
Step 7
COURT PREP APPOINTMENT
This short appointment will be to briefly explain what to expect at your court hearing. You will meet or speak with an attorney or legal assistant.
Step 8
341 MEETING OF CREDITORS
This is your court hearing. An attorney will meet you at the Federal Court House prior to your scheduled hearing. Arrive at least 30 minutes early (due to security line) and bring your driver’s license and social security card.
Step 9
2ND CREDIT COUNSELING
This is the 2nd required credit counseling course that must be completed in order to receive your discharge.
Step 10 Discharge (Chapter 7 Only)
CHAPTER 7 ONLY: BANKRUPTCY
You should receive your official discharge notice from the courts approximately 60 – 90 days from the date of your 341 hearing. These are sent by the courts, not us.
Step 10 Hearing (Chapter 13 Only)
CONFIRMATION
Your confirmation hearing takes place about 2 months after your 341 hearing.
